The sad fatality at the Council School, whereby a little girl lost her life in the Cookery Centre, has evoked widespread sympathy for the bereaved parents, and indeed for all who were concerned in this unfortunate affair.
It was clearly established at the inquest that it was quite accidental, and no blame whatever attached to anybody. The jury commended the conduct of the mistress in her brave efforts to extinguish the flames which were enveloping the poor child, and made recommendations with the view of preventing any such accidents in future.
***
One of these is some protection to the range, which certainly does seem necessary with a number of children about, dressed in loose overalls, generally of flimsy material. Etc. etc.
