ALFRED TURNER
THE LATE MR. ALFRED TURNER
The death of Mr. Alfred Turner, who for 19 years, first at Northbrook-street, and then at Cheap-street, was manager from Messrs. Freeman, Hardy and Willis, in this town, took place on Sunday morning last.
The deceased gentleman was widely known and respected, and was a familiar figure amongst the business men of the town. He had a wide experience, and was at his best when surrounded by young men, by whom he was appreciated and was familiarly known as "uncle." He had been in indifferent health for some time, but the end came quite suddenly.
The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday) at the Cemetery, where his wife, who died two years after his coming to Newbury, is also buried. The Rev. F.W. Clarke conducted the service.
The mourners were Mr. and Mrs. Axford (brother-in-law and sister), Mr. H. Turner (nephew), Mrs. Turner (sister-in-law), Mr. A.T. Janes (district inspector to Messrs. Freeman, Hardy and Willis) and Mr. T.F. Wiltshire
The coffin was of polished elm, with plate inscribed:
