Sarah was born in Newbury Berkshire the daughter of John and Winifred Dibley (nee Gough) who were married on the 23rd May 1826 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

Sarah’s mother Winifred was born on the 22nd January 1804 in Newbury, she was baptised on the 12th February at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the daughter of John and Mary Gough (nee Triggs) who were married at St Nicolas Church Newbury on the 19th October 1798. Winifred had an illegitimate son William Gough, baptised on the 30th March 1823 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (father recorded on the baptism record as Samuel Dibley). Winifred died aged 59 in 1860, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd September.

Her father John was born on the 19th December 1799 in Newbury, he was baptised on the 14th February 1800 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Dibley (nee Lidiard) who were married on the 30th October 1786 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. John died aged 81 in 1874, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th February

 

Sarah’s siblings were:

Elizabeth, baptised 9th July 1828

John baptised 4th June 1830 (died aged 2 weeks buried on the 9th June 1830)            All baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury

John baptised 5th April 1834 (died aged 16 months buried on the 30th May 1835)         Father recorded as a Labourer

Charles baptised 25th November 1836

George baptised 6th April 1841 (died aged 9 months buried on the 12th January 1842)

Frederick baptised 30th June 1844 (died aged 3 buried on the 16th October 1847)

 

In the 1841 census Sarah (7) was recorded living with her mother and her siblings, Eliza (16) Charles (4) and George (0) in Newtown Road, Newbury.

 

Sarah had an illegitimate son William Dibley born in Newbury in 1859.

 

In 1861 Sarah (26) and her son William (1) were visiting her half-brother William Goff (Gough (38)) and his wife Emma (26) in Station Road, Friern Barnet, Middlesex. Sarah was recorded as a Laundress.

 

She married Thomas Lynch (a widower) in 1862 (marriage registered in the September quarter in Andover Hampshire)

 

(Thomas was baptised on the 17th October 1817 as Thomas Gough Lynch the illegitimate son of Maria Paice Lynch and Thomas Gough, a Corn Porter. His mother Maria was born Maria Paice c1792, she was known as Maria Lynch/Maria Paice and Maria Paice Lynch later in life as her mother Elizabeth formed a relationship with John Lynch in approximately 1805.  Maria married (as Maria Paice) Edward Golding on the 2nd January 1825 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.)

 

Thomas and Sarah had the following children:

Emma Paice born in 1863 in Newbury.

 Henry Lynch born on the 16th May 1866 in Islington, baptised Henry Linch on the 10th June 1866 in Islington

 Anna Maria Lynch born 1868 in Newbury (died aged 7 months in Newbury, buried (as Ann Maria) in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th November 1868).

 

The 1871 census records Thomas (50) as a Labourer, living in Old Road, Newbury with Sarah and their children Emma (7) and Henry (5).

 

The 1891 census records Sarah (60) as a widow, working as a Housekeeper, living in Hampton Road, Newbury with her widowed half-brother William Gough (71), a Labourer.

 

In 1901 Sarah (67) was recorded as a Pauper in the Workhouse Newbury.

 

She died aged 76 in the Newbury Workhouse in 1909 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th July
