Transciption: | ELIZABETH BUCKERIDGE It was a remarkable coincidence that last week’s obituary column should have contained the death notices of two octogenarians bearing the name of the widows of two brothers named Buckeridge, descended from the Buckeridges of Oare farm. One died in London, the other at Newbury. The latter was the widow of William Buckeridge, who will be remembered by an older generation as a member of the old borough police force, Town Crier and bill poster. The Crier’s office is still existent, but the duties are rarely exercised nowadays. The members of the borough police have all passed away, the last being John Tegg, who died suddenly during the summer. Old Mrs Rosier, whose husband was in the Force, is still living in the retirement of an almshouse. |
