Kate Vickers
1891-1921
Kate was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Ann Curtis (nee Samuels) who were married in 1870 (marriage registered in Newbury).
Kate’s father Thomas was a Carman, he was born in 1842 in Caversham Oxfordshire the son of James and Sarah Curtis (nee Seymour) who were married in Caversham in 1830. Thomas died aged 54 in 1897 he was buried on the 17th December at St Mary Greenham.
Her mother Sarah was born c1849 in Newbury Berkshire the daughter of William Henry and Hannah Samuels (nee Purdue) who were married in 1837 (marriage registered in Newbury). Sarah died aged 84 in 1933, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th May.
Thomas and Sarah also had the following children (all born in Newbury):

In 1891 Thomas, Sarah and their children Louisa (18), Emily (13) Albert (6) and Arthur (4) were living at 3 Prince’s Place Newbury.
The 1901 census records Kate (9) living at 12 Smith’s Buildings Greenham with her widowed mother Sarah and her siblings, Charles (18), Albert (15), Arthur (13) and Fred (6).
The 1911 census records Sarah as a Charwoman still living at 12 Smith’s Buildings with her children, Albert (25) a Railway Platelayer, Arthur (23) a Domestic Gardener and Fred Ernest (17) a House Painter. Kate (19) was working as a Domestic Servant for a Miss Beatrice Helen Kent, at Chapel Farm House, Greenham, Berkshire.
Kate married Frederick Thomas Vickers in 1914 (marriage registered in Newbury)
(Frederick Thomas was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Mary Ann Vickers (nee Bailey) who were married in 1874 (marriage registered in Newbury)
Frederick and Kate had the following three children (all births registered in Newbury)
Kathleen Mary born 1915
Hilda Mabel born 1917 (died aged 3 months, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th December)
Dorothy Irene born 1920 (died aged 16 in 1936, she was buried with her parents in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd June)
The 1921 census records Frederick, Kate, Kathleen and Dorothy living in Andover Road, Newbury.
Kate died aged 30 in the Newbury District Hospital on the 4th October 1921, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th October.
Frederick died aged 38 in the Newbury District Hospital on the 5th January 1926, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th January.
