ELIZABETH HILLIER

A SALVATION ARMY FUNERAL took place on Monday afternoon. The deceased was Mrs. Hillier, wife of Robert Hillier, of Northcroft-terrace, who died of pneumonia, after a short illness, at the age of 32, leaving a young family.

She had been a faithful soldier of the Newbury Corps, and the members attended in strong force to show their respect and sympathy for the bereaved family. The full band attended, and preceded the hearse from the Barracks to the Cemetery, impressively playing the "Dead March."

At the head was carried the banner of the Corps, and in the rear walked a large number of adherents, each wearing a white armlet. The procession, as it wended its way slowly through the streets, was the object of sympathetic interest. A large crowd assembled around the grave, and the officers took advantage of the gathering to conduct service of great solemnity.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday evening, the band previously playing a funeral march on the way to the Barracks.
