WILLIAM JAMES SWAITE

THE LATE Mr. W. J. SWAITE.

The funeral of the late Mr. W. J. Swaite, of Bartholomew-street. took place on Friday last. The body was taken to the Primitive Methodist Church, where service was held, conducted by the Rev. J. Neville, a large number of friends being present at the same. The hymn was sung, "How blest the righteous when he dies," and as the body was removed for interment in the Cemetery the strains of the Dead March in "Saul" came from the organ.

The mourners were Mr. Fred Swaite, of Reading (son), and Mrs. Phyllis Rosier (daughter}; also Mrs. F. Swaite, Mr. P. Rosier and Mr. and Mrs. Rosier, Mr. Michael and Miss Rosier. Several floral tributes were sent by friends.

On the following Sunday a memorial service was held at the Primitive Methodist Church of which Mr. Swaite was a member. Mr. Swaite was a native of Newbury, having lived in the borough all his life, and had been in business several years as a boot and shoemaker. Being of a retiring disposition he never took part in town matters. He was an Oddlfellow of 40 years' standing, belonging to Briton's Pride Lodge. He leaves a son and two daughters, one of the latter having settled in South Africa. His wife predeceased him 14 years ago.
