FATAL FALL ON A FIRE. SAD DEATH AT NEWBURY.

A tragic accident occurred at Newbury last week, resulting in the painful death of Mrs. Annie Pink, wife of Mr. W. .

J. Pink, steward of the South Berks Club, which has as rooms over the Capital and Counties Bank. On Sunday evening, the l5th, the wife was upstairs in the bedroom, and the husband was lying on a sofa in the sittingroom. He had been reading, and fell asleep, when he was awakened by a fall. He was horrified to find that his wife was lying in the fireplace, and that the upper portions of her body were seriously burnt, particularly her head and left hand, her hair being, completely destroyed. He lost no time in removing her from the fire, and ran for a doctor, leaving her in charge of the maid-servant. Dr. Wyllie was quickly in attendance, and dressed the wounds, which were of serious character. Dr. Jenner Clarke attended her on the following Monday, when he advised removal to the hospital where the case was in charge of Dr. Kerby. Mrs. Pink never regained consciousness. and her condition from the first gave cause for grave anxiety, as her left hand was completely charred, and there were severe wounds on the left shoulder and side. She took nourishment well, but her temperature rose rapidly, being as high as 108.4. and her heart failing, death took place on Saturday evening. An inquest was held on Monday evening before the Borough Coroner )Dr. Watson), and a jury of whom Mr. W. J. Dike was foreman. Evidence was given by the husband, the maid servant, Alice Louisa Dore, and Dr. Kerby. The jury returned verdict that "Deceased met her death accidentally from falling in the fire."
