Elsie’s birth was registered in Windsor, Berkshire, she was the daughter of George and Rose Amelia Alder (nee Shilton) who were married in 1898 (marriage registered in Newbury)

Elsie died aged 5 months on the 1st September 1905, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th September.

Elsie’s family:

Her father George was born c1874 in Blewbury, Berkshire.

Her mother Rose Amelia was born on the 25th January 1880 in Compton, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Sophia Amelia Shilton (nee Bruce) who were married in 1860 (marriage registered in King’s Norton Worcestershire)

George and Rose Amelia also had the following children:

Florence Hetty Ann 1902, birth registered in Windsor

Doris Ellen 1906 in Newbury (died aged 2 in 1908 buried in the NRC on the 16th December)

Violet Rose 1909 in Newbury

The 1901 census records George (27) as an Ironmonger/Carman living with Rose (22) in Egham, Surrey.

In 1911 George (34) a Domestic Gardener, Rose (29), Florence (8) and Violet (1) were recorded living at 25 West Street, Newbury, Berkshire. Also recorded in the household were 2 boarders.

The 1921 census records George, Rose and their daughter Violet Rose living in West Street, Newbury.

George died sometime between 1921-1939. (Possible death December quarter 1938 in Reading, not proved)

Rose was living at 14 Cheap Street Newbury in 1939. She married George Grant in 1944 (marriage registered in Newbury).
