Edward/Edwin William Amor
1877-1905
Edwin William was born in 1877 in Cole, Somerset. He was baptised on the 25th December 1877, at Wyke Champflower, Somerset, the son of James (a Farmer) and Elizabeth Stone Amor (nee Jeffery), who were married on the 22nd February 1876, in Bruton, Somerset.
His father James was baptised on the 6th June 1852, in Pitcombe, Somerset, the son of William and Charlotte Amor (nee Williams), who were married on the 4th May 1843, in North Cheriton, Somerset.
Edwin’s mother Elizabeth Stone was baptised on the 14th April 1850, in Chetnole, Dorset, the daughter of John Highmore and Sarah Stone Jeffery (nee Hounsell), who were married on the 27th December 1842, in Melbury Bubb and Woolcombe, Dorset.
James and Elizabeth also had the following children:
John James, born 1878 in Cole Somerset, baptised 26th October 1878, in Wyke Champflower, Somerset
Arthur, born 22nd January 1881, in Bristol, baptised 7th October 1883, at St Laurence, Seale, Surrey
Walter Charles, born 25th August 1883, in Aldershot, baptised 7th October 1883 (with his brother Arthur)
Sarah Susan Rosina (aka Rosina), born 1885 in Kingsley, Hampshire.
William Jeffery, born 1890, in Parkstone, Dorset
The 1881 census records James (28), a Farmer of 18 acres, Elizabeth (31), Edwin (3), James (2) and Arthur (1 month), living at Hill House Farm, Dundry, Somerset.
The 1891 census records James as William J. (39), a Grocer, Elizabeth (41), Edwin (13), James (11), Arthur (10), Walter (8), Rosina (6) and William (1), living in Ashley Road, Kinson, Dorset.
In 1901 James (48), a Stockman on Farm, Elizabeth (51), Walter (17), Rosina (15), a Draper’s Assistant and William (11) were living at Warren Fram, The Wash, Newbury, Berkshire. Edwin (23), (recorded as Edwin W. Amer on ancestry) a Domestic Gardener, was boarding at 73 Elm Grove, Peckham, Camberwell, London.
Edwin married Lucy Jane Ferris in 1902 (marriage registered in Newbury)
(Lucy Jane was born on the 9th September 1876 in Devon, she was baptised in Tamerton Foliot, in 1876, the daughter of William Peter and Jane Ferris (nee French) who were married in 1866, marriage registered in Plympton, Devon)
Edwin and Lucy had a daughter, Gwendoline Cicely Rosina born in 1903, in Newbury.
Edwin died aged 27 in 1905, in Newbury. (Name at death recorded as Edward William). He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th January.
Gwendoline died aged 2 in 1906, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd February.
Lucy Jane remarried in 1907 (marriage registered in Newbury) Her 2nd husband was William Evans.
They had a son, Reginald William Horace born 7th July 1911 (died in 1944)
Lucy was widowed in 1937. She died in 1972 in Newbury.
