JOHN LAILEY
DEATH OF A CORPORATION WORKMAN
The death tookp lace suddenly, of John Lailey, aged 61 years, who has been employed by the Newbury Corporation nearly 20 years, most of that time being engaged as a carter. He had complained of feeling unwell for several weeks. On Saturday week he was in his usual work, cleaning up the town, late at night, and .reached home about 11 p.m. He was then taken very ill, and died, the following night at 10 p.m.

The funeral of the deceased took place at the cemetery on Wednesday, when his fellow workmen paid him their last tribute of respect in carrying and following him to his resting place. Mr. Dowling attended as the representative of the Borough Surveyor's department. The Borough Surveyor and his staff sent an artificial wreath, and contributions of cut flowers were made by the fellow workmen of the deceased. The Borough horses wore a pair of large crape rosettes for several days following the funeral.
