Transciption: | CHARLES THOMAS BAILEY THE LATE MR. C.T. BAILEY. The funeral of the late Mr. Charles Thomas Bailey, of Craven-street, took place the afternoon of Thursday last. The remains, enclosed in a coffin of polished oak with brass fittings, were conveyed to the Primitive Methodist Church, where the services were conducted by the Revs. J. Neville and W. Bridge, and afterwards the body laid to rest in Newbury Cemetery. The mourners were Mr. William Charles Bailey (son), Mrs. Carruthers, Mrs. Ridler, Mrs. Heineman (daughters), Mrs. W. C. Bailey (daughter-in-law), Mr. Ridler (son-in-law), Miss Swann (London). Miss M. Smith, Mr. Jamieson (London). Several friends were present in the Church and at the graveside. Two wreaths had also been sent, but the expressed wish of the deceased was that there should be an absence of flowers. The arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Penford and Son. Losing his parents when young, deceased was brought up by an uncle, who held a position of trust on the Shaw Estate during the period that Sir Joseph Andrews lived at Shaw House. He was apprenticed to a coachbuilder in Speenhamland, and afterwards left the town, but about nine years ago he returned to Newbury with the desire of ending his days in close association with surroundings in which the earlier days of his life were spent. Mr. Bailey retained many of the characteristics of a former generation, and while being genial, was particularly out-spoken and straightforward in all his relations. |
