George Golding
c1830-1903
George was born in Newbury he was the son of Edward and Maria Golding (nee Paice) who were married on the 2nd January 1825 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.
Maria was born c1791 in either Farnham Surrey or Newbury and Edward was born c1799 in Henley on Thames and was a Shoemaker.
George had a sister, Mary Ann born c1829.
In 1841 George was living with his parents and sister in Old Newtown Road Newbury. The 1851 census also records him living in Old Newtown Road with his parents. He was recorded as an Agricultural Labourer.
George married Sarah Rose (born c1832 East Woodhay Hampshire) in 1853

George and Sarah had the following children:
Edward c1854 Southwark (died aged 14 in 1868 buried 4th July in the NRC)
Mary Ann 1856 Southwark
Emily 1858 Southwark
Sarah Ann 1861 Newbury (died aged 3 in 1864 buried 13th August in the NRC)
Lizzy 1865 Newbury
The 1861 census records George (31), Shoemaker (Journeyman), Sarah (31), Edward (7), Mary A (4) and Emily (2) living in Hereford Place Newbury.
The family were recorded living in Hereford Place in the 1871-1901 census records George was recorded as a Shoemaker/Bootmaker. Sarah was recorded as a Nurse/Midwife.
George died aged 74 on the 8th November 1903 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11th November.
After his death Sarah continued to live in Hereford Place until at least 1911 but by 1914 she was living at 72 Bartholomew Street Newbury. She died aged 83 on the 30th July 1914 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st August.
