THE LATE MR. JOHN OSGOOD

Our obituary contains the name of a very old townsman, Mr. John Osgood, who for a greater part of his life occupied the house and premises on Newbury Bridge, his profession being that of an artist. Many of the former generation received from him their instruction in art. It was only two years since that he removed from the town on the death of his wife, and he passed away on Saturday last at the advanced age of 91.

The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday) at Newbury Cemetery. The deceased being laid to rest by the side of his wife, who passed away in March of 1899.

The first portion of the ceremony was held in the Parish Church, the Rector officiating. The mourners included Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Troup, Mrs. Jennings, Mr. A. Troup, Miss Troup, Mrs. Ernest Layton, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Austin, Miss Seymour, and Mr. G. Hollis.

The coffin, which was covered with beautiful wreaths, was of oak, with brass furniture, and the plate bore the inscription:-

The senders of the beautiful floral emblems were Mr. and Mrs. Troup and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Layton, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Austin, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hollis, “His faithful nurse, Ada Chambers,” “From Fanny and Ada.”
