THE LATE MISS BEW. - By the decease of Miss Mary Bew, which occurred at her residence in the London-road*, on Monday afternoon, the last member has passed away of a family formerly well known and much respected in the neighbourhood. Her father was, we believe, a a medical man in practice at Thatcham, and her brother, the late Mr. W.H. Bew was for many years principal of the Speen-hill school, at which a number of leading agriculturists of the district and others, received their education.
Mr. Bew and his two sisters, who resided with him, are held in affectionate regard by his old pupils, for the kind solicitude that they always evinced for the welfare of the boys under their care. Mr. Bew, who transferred the school in 1860 to the late Mr. Guyer, passed away in 1887, his sister now deceased surviving him by sixteen years.
Mis Bew was connected with the Congregational Church, and for several years filled, with her sister, the office of superintendent of the Girls’ Sunday School. Of late years her strength has gradually declined, and she has now passed away at the advanced age of 92 years.
The funeral takes place tomorrow.
