Elizabeth Elliott

Elizabeth Elliott (1819 – 1901)

Ann Louisa Elliott (1862 – 1864)

                             

Elizabeth Fisher was born circa 1819 in Newbury, her father was James. She married William Elliott on 2 January 1847 at St Nicolas in Newbury. William was born circa 1822 in Dublin.

 

In the 1851 census William & Elizabeth were living in Hight Street in Hungerford & William was recorded as tin plate worker. Ten years later in the 1861 census William & Elizabeth were living in Craven Arms in Hungerford High Street with daughters Sarah Elizabeth aged 3 & Emily aged 2. William was recorded as an inn keeper and ginger beer “factory”.

 

Another daughter Ann Louisa was born circa July 1862 in Hungerford. Ann died January 1864 and was buried 8 January 1864 at Newtown Road Cemetery.

 

In the 1871 census Elizabeth was recorded with daughters Elizabeth aged 14 & Emily aged 12 at Jack Tap in Northbrook Street in Newbury. Elizabeth was recorded as a wife of a publican temporarily absent with daughter Elizabeth an apprentice dressmaker and Emily a scholar. Charles Stream aged 33 and a brewer’s labourer was also recorded living at Jack Tap. William was recorded as a lodger in the Coach & Horses, Oxford Road in Clewer and described as a tinman and brazier.

 

William died 22 October 1878 aged 56 in Abergavenny after a short illness. He was buried at 24 October 1878 at St Mary in Abergavenny.

 

Elizabeth was still living at Jack Tap in 1881 census and recorded as a publican. Charles Stream was also still living in the premises but now a cellarman.

 

Ten years later in the 1891 census Elizabeth was living in The Broadway in Speen with her daughter Emily Denner and her family. In the 1901 census Elizabeth was still living with her daughter Emily and family but now at The Ferns in Kings Road in Newbury.

 

Elizabeth died October 1901 and was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 30 October 1901.
