Transciption: | JOHN BURROUGH THE LATE MR. JOHN BURROUGH - The death took place on Thursday of Mr John Burrough, of Olney-lodge, Donnington-square, after a few days illness. Mr. Burrough had attained to the age of sixty-eight years, but few beyond his immediate family circle were aware that be was so old, his activity and energy being characteristic of a younger man. He owed his good health to his love for exercise. By trade a compositor. a sedentary occupation, he keenly enjoyed all outdoor sports and recreations. He was a member of the old Newbury Gymnasium, and was one of the most proficient in its exercises. He was an enthusiastic cyclist, and rode many thousand miles during his life. An ardent admirer of football, he was a regular attendant at the matches on the Newbury ground. His favourite recreation, however, was bowling, in which be displayed considerable skill, taking part in most of the matches on the Newbury Green. Of a kindly disposition, he had many friends, who sincerely mourn his decease, none more than the colleagues with whom he was associated for the long space of nearly forty years, at the office of the "Newbury Weekly News " The funeral took place on Monday afternoon at the Cemetery, when there was a large attendance of friends. The Rev. E. H. Titchmarsh officiated in the chapel and at the graveside. The mourners were Mr. Edward Burrough (brother), Miss Burrough, Miss Margaret Burrough (sisters), Mr. and Mrs. T. Shaw, Sir (?)John Rotton (cousin), Miss M. H. Burrough, Mr. E. S Burrough, Mr. H R. Burrough, and the Nurse. The funeral procession was also joined at the Cemetery by Mr. T. W. Turner and Mr. F. H. Stillman representing the literary staff of the "Weekly News." and …. the Mayor (Mr Councillor Rankin. J.P ), etc., etc. Amongst the floral offerings were ….. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Penford and Son, Northbrook-street
