Edmund Purdue
c1823-1900
Edmund was born in Newbury the son of George & Mary Purdue (nee Cook) who married on the 5th February 1823 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.
Edmund was a Carpenter. He married Ann Everest (born c1812 Headley Surrey) in 1845.

Witnesses: George Stillman and Hannah Dell
Edmund and Ann had the following children:
David William Everest born 1840 (Ann’s illegitimate son)

Henry 1850
Alfred 1852-1856 (buried 9/4/1856 in the Newtown Road Cemetery)
Mary Ann 1854-1855 (buried 26/10/1855 in the Newtown Road Cemetery)
In 1851 the family were living in Eyles Buildings Newbury. In 1861 Edmund, Ann and their son Henry were recorded living with Edmund’s parents George (60), a Gardener and Mary Purdue (65), a Dressmaker, at 8 Railway Terrace Newbury.
Ann died aged 50 in 1862 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Cemetery on the 26th December.
Edmund’s father George died aged 62 in 1863 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th August

Bride: Eliza Chappell, full age, spinster, abode, 8 Cambridge Place
Fathers: George Purdue, occupation, Cordwainer and George Chappell, occupation, Coachman
Edmund and Eliza had the following children:

Elizabeth Mary 1873
John 1875
Edmund’s mother Mary died aged 84 in 1880 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th March.
Edmund continued to live in Railway Terrace with his family until his death. He died aged 77 in 1900 in Newbury and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st November.
The 1901 census records Eliza living in Railway Terrace with her youngest two sons Arthur and John.
The 1911 census records Eliza (79) living with her son Thomas and his family at Cromer, Bradville Road, West Drayton Middlesex
Eliza died aged 85 in 1916 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 23rd December (at the time of her death she was recorded living at 4 Pleasant Place St John’s Road Newbury).
