Hannah Osgood
c1829-1900
Hannah, her parents, siblings and early life:
Hannah was baptised on the 22nd March 1829 in Thatcham, Berkshire, the daughter of John and Mary Anne Pocock (nee Selwood) who were married on the 1st November 1823 at St Mary, Thatcham.
Hannah’s father John was and Agricultural Labourer. He was born c1797 in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire. John died aged 71 in 1871, he was buried on the 7th January at St Mary Thatcham
Her mother Mary Anne was born c1801 in Thatcham, Berkshire, the daughter of Jonathan and Hannah Selwood (nee Hale) who were married on the 6th September 1795 in Thatcham.
John and Mary also had the following children baptised in Thatcham:
Mary Ann Sellwood baptised in 1821 (Illegitimate daughter of Mary Anne)
George 28th March 1824
Charlotte 10th September 1826
Joseph 18th September 1831
James born c1837 (no baptism found)
William 28th July 1839
Esther 17th July 1842
Martha 6th July 1845
In 1841 Hannah (12) was living in Cold Ash, Berkshire, with her parents John (45) and Mary (40) and her siblings Mary (20), Charlotte (15), Joseph (10), James (4) and William (2).
The 1851 census records John (54), Mary (49), Hannah (22), William (12), Esther (10), Martha (6) and a Charlotte (2) (recorded as a daughter, probably their granddaughter), living in Cold Ash Common, Berkshire.
Hannah in later life:
Hannah married William Osgood on the 28th June 1851 in Thatcham, Berkshire.
(William was Brickmaker. He was baptised on the 19th August 1827 in Thatcham, the son of James and Elizabeth Osgood)
William and Hannah had two sons, James born c1852 and George born c1854.
The 1861 census records William (34), Hannah (33), James (9) and George (7), living in Clay Hill, Thatcham.
In 1871 William (46), Hannah (46) and their son George (17), were recorded living at Laurel Cottage, Thatcham.
Their son George died aged 21, on the 31st October 1874, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th November.
The 1881 census records William (54) as a Brick and Tile Maker, living at 20 Shaw Kiln Road, Thatcham, with Hannah (54), a Nurse and their grandson Herbert E. Wall (2).
In 1891 William (64) and Hannah (64) were recorded living in Shaw Fields, Cold Ash
Hannah died aged 73 on the 23rd February 1900, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery with her son George, on the 28th February.
The 1901 census records William aged (74) as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Shaw Fields, his granddaughter Lilian R. Osgood (17) was recorded living with him.
