Sidney George Stephens (1897 – 1900)
Frank William Churchill Stephens was born 31 August 1870 in Newbury. He married Clara Harriett Bowley in Newbury in 1892. Clara was born 1 November 1867 in Newbury.
Frank and Clara’s first child Samuel Frank was born in Newbury in 1892 followed by William James in 1894 and then Sidney George in March 1897.
Sadly, Sidney George died on 2 January 1900 and he was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 5 January 1900. An announcement appeared in the Newbury Weekly News dated 4 January 1900 as below.
STEPHENS – Jan 2, Northcroft Lane, Sidney George, youngest son of Frank and Clara Stephens, aged 2 years and 9 months.
In the 1901 census Frank and Clara were living in Northcroft Lane in Newbury with sons Samuel aged 8, William aged 6 and Arthur aged 1. Frank was recorded as a billposter.
Ten years later in the 1911 census Frank and Clara were still living in Northcroft Lane with sons Samuel aged 18, William aged 16, Arthur aged 11 and Reginald aged 8 and daughter Ada aged 2. Frank was recorded as a billposter, Samuel as a wheelwright, William as a butcher’s errand boy while Arthur and Reginald were at school.
Frank and Clara continued to live in Newbury and were buried at Shaw Cemetery on 9 August 1958 and 19 May 1945 respectively.
