Maria Hazell
c1823-1899
Maria was baptised on the 19th January 1823 in Newtown, Hampshire, the daughter of George and Charlotte White (nee Richardson) who were married on the 13th July 1822 in Burghclere, Hampshire.
George and Charlotte also had the following children baptised in Newtown:
Sarah 27th March 1825
George 23rd December 1827
Charles and Henry 6th April 1834
James 24th April 1836
Ann 30th April 1837
James 22nd August 1841
Maria married in 1842
Marriage details:
Place: Newtown Hampshire
Date: 10th December 1842
Groom: James Hazell, full age, bachelor, occupation, Labourer, abode, Kingsclere
Bride: Maria White, full age, spinster, abode, Newtown
Fathers: William Hazell and George White, both Labourers
Witnesses: Richard Hazell and Sarah White

(James was an Agricultural Labourer, he was baptised on the 2nd March 1823 at St Mary Greenham, Berkshire the son of William and Harriet Hazell (nee Whale) who were married on the 2nd January 1803 in Thatcham, Berkshire)
James and Maria had the following three children baptised in Newtown, Hampshire:
Thomas baptised 26th March 1843
Harriet baptised 21st March 1845
Sarah Anne baptised 15th December 1854
In 1851 James (30), Maria (28), Thomas (8) and Harriet (6) were living in Wash Common, Newbury, Berkshire. Also recorded in the household was a lodger, Thomas Palmer (30), a Chair Maker and a visitor, George Chivers (6). (Surname recorded as Hazeld on ancestry)
In 1861 James (40), Maria (32) and Sarah (6) were living in Newtown Road, Newtown Hampshire.
The 1871 census records James (48), Maria (49) an Occasional Nurse, Maria’s mother Charlotte White (70) and a Walter Mayo (1) a Nurse Child, living in a Cottage in Newtown, Hampshire.
James died aged 52 in 1872 (death registered in Newbury)
The 1891 census records Maria (67) as a widow, living in Elm Villa, Greenham with her married son Thomas (44) a Gas Fitter, her daughter-in-law Sarah (39) and her grandchildren James (15), Arthur (13), Annie (10), Alfred (3) and Albert (2)
Maria died aged 82 in 1899, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th October.
