THE LATE MR. MATHIWS. Our obituary of to-day contains the death of Mr. Charles Mathews, of Westbrook, which event occurred on Wednesday last. The deceased had lived in the parish ever since 1808, and for many years was the occupier of the Boxford Mill, and at one time also worked West Mills and Shaw Mills, succeeding to the latter upon the removal of the late Mr. Champion to Ham Mills. Mr. Mathews was noteworthy as being the oldest man upon Newbury Market, having begun to attend in the year 1815; now that he is gone, Mr. Witherington, of Sonning, we believe, takes the place of senior. Throughout a long career Mr. Mathews maintained the highest character for honourable dealing, and was held in high esteem. He was buried in the Newbury Cemetery, on Tuesday last in the family vault, where only two years since his wife was laid to rest.
