HENRY LEADER

AN INQUEST was held last evening by Dr. Watson, J.P., coroner, and a jury of whom Mr. Ralph Allder was foreman.   Deceased, (Henry Leader) had been an inmate of the Infirmary, leaving on Saturday, since which he had lodged at Mrs. Lane's, Northcroft lane. On Tuesday night, about half-past ten, a lodger named Townsend heard a moaning noise, and going upstairs found deceased in an aparently dying condition. Mr. Birch was sent for, but deceased was past human aid , for he died immediately afterwards. The verdict was death was caused by lung disease accelerated by want.

SUDDEN DEATH — Dr. Watson, the borough coroner, held and inquest at the "Jack" Hotel, on Wednesday evening, on the body of a drover named Henry Leader, who died at Mrs. Lane's lodging-house in Northcroft Lane. From the evidence of Mrs. Lane it appeared that the deceased came to her house on the previous Saturday. He was not well, but did not complain. On Tuesday deceased had a cup of tea and went to bed at 4 o'clock. At half-past 10 witness heard a moaning in deceased's room. A doctor was sent for, but the poor fellow expired before he arrived. Dr. Birch stated that he had attended deceased at the Infirmary, but he expressed a wish to go to Newbury on Saturday. Witness advised him not to go. Witness was of opinion that deceased died from chronic disease of the lungs, accelerated by want of proper care and nourishment. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony.
