George Liddiard
He was born c.1803 in Newbury. On 28thJanuary 1848 he was appointed a Post Messenger from Newbury to Welford on the recommendation of Frederick Dundas. In 1851 he is residing in Chapel Yard off Northbrook Street, aged 45, occupation Post Messenger, with his wife Sarah and 3 sons – George (aged 20 apprentice Wheelwright) ; Henry (16 – Apprentice Cutler) ; Charles ( 11 – Scholar), and 4 daughters Martha (14 – Scholar); Jane (aged 9 – Scholar) ; Mary (aged 5 - Scholar) and Elizabeth (aged 2 years & 11 months). In 1861 he is a Postman residing at 10 Union Chapel Yard with his wife Sarah and daughter Mary (aged 16 – a Seamstress). By 1871 he is a Pensioner (Post Office), aged 67, living with his wife Sarah, now a Laundress, daughter Sarah Jane Moulton (nee Liddiard) and grandson Charles Turner, age 5, at Hazells Yard, Newbury. He died aged 70 years and he was buried on 21 April 1873.
