Sudden Death
A sad case of sudden death occurred on Saturday night. Mr. Thomas Thatcher, blacksmith, of Gashouse-road, had been working in his usual health during the day, and in the evening was preparing to wash himself after his labours. He suddenly complained of faintness, and sat down on a chair, from which he fell to the ground, striking his forehead on the fender. Mrs. Thatcher and her son were the only persons present, and Mr Thatcher expired in a few minutes. The deceased, who was 41 years of age, has been under medical treatment, for heart disease, to which his sudden death is now attributed. These facts were reported to the Borough Coroner (Dr. Watson), who did not think it necessary under the circumstances to hold an inquest. The deceased was a member of the "Loyal Britons' Pride" Lodge of Oddfellows, and his funeral yesterday was attended by 30 or 40 members of the Order.
