Transciption: | ELIZA FANSTONE WESLEYAN CHAPEL.—The friends of the late Mrs. Fanstone attended this Chapel on Sunday morning last, when. The Rev. A. J. O. Lyla, preached a comforting sermon on Our Heavenly City. . Heaven was a city glorious in holiness, of vast magnitude, and of unceasing and ever-increasing happiness. Believers became citizens thereof not by natural birth, nor on the ground of personal righteousness, but through the righteousness which is of God by faith. There was a Divine attestation of our celestial citizenship, the consciousness of a spiritual condition which implied it, and a corresponding temper and life; universal abstinence from evil, an incessant resistance of the spirit of worldliness, a faithful imitation of Christ; and a practical compliance with His requirements. Citizens of heaven were sometimes weary and sad, their joy disturbed by the various ills of life, suffered poverty, and frequently were deprived of the companionship of their loved ones by death. We were exhorted to remember that heaven was a city of perfect rest, perfect purity, perfect bliss. Imperishable wealth, and of eternal and inseparable residence. The sermon concluded by an earnest appeal to heavenly mindedness.
