Transciption: | Forty Years Lock-keeper. The death took place on August 2nd of John Ferris, for forty years the Newbury lock-keeper for the Kennet and Avon Canal Company. The funeral took place on Saturday, the first part of the service being conducted at the Parish Church by the Rev. C. T. Lord, the interment being at the Newtown-road Cemetery. The bearers were four of his old fellow lock-keepers, Messrs. A Wild, W Newnan, J Salter, J Slade, headed by Mr Stowell and fellow-workmen. Wreaths were sent by his sorrowing wife and family, Mr. E. Reeves (son-in-law) Mrs. R A Perris (daughtqr-in-law), Mrs. W H, Mr W Ferris (biother, Rowde, Devizes), Mr J T (tom) and family (Boxford). George Canada), Ada (Wokingham), Richard and Walter (Hungerford), Stanley and Grandchildrene (Newbury ), Fellow Work-mates Eastern section GWR., Mr. Anken (Newbury), Mrs. J. Huntley and family (Boxford , Mr. and Mrs. Cliff (Hungerford), an Old Friend. The coffin was of polished elm with brass fittings. The arrangements were carried out by Hart and Sons, of Northcroft-lane,
