James Viner

James Viner

c1802-1883

 

James was born in Hungerford Berkshire and was a Tanner/Tanner’s Labourer. He married Charlotte Titcomb on 18th October 1829 at Shaw-cum-Donnington Newbury and they had three children, Jane baptised 20th June 1803, Mary baptised 15th April 1832 and William baptised 7th May 1834, all three children were baptised in Hungerford.  Charlotte died in 1837 she was buried on the 17th September in Hungerford.

James remarried in 1838, his second wife was Elizabeth Eastman (spelt Easman at the time of their marriage, she was born c 1804 in Kintbury).

Elizabeth already had two sons before her marriage to James, William born in 1823 and Joseph born in 1834 and James & Elizabeth had a daughter, Eliza born in 1839.

 The family lived in Greenham until at least 1851 but by 1861 James & Elizabeth were living in Southwark Surrey (Pitt Street).  Elizabeth died in 1864 in Surrey.

After his wife’s death James returned to Newbury.  In the 1881 census he was recorded as a Pauper in the Newbury Workhouse.  He died aged 81 in 1883 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5th October.
