MARY ANGELL

SUDDEN DEATH OF AN ALMSWOMAN.—

Last evening an inquest was held before H.Watson, Esq., M.D., borough coroner, on the body of Mary Angell, an occupant of one of St. Mary's Almshouses, who was found dead on the previous evening at half-past ten.

Deceased was 64 years of age, and according to the evidence of William James Adler, who lodged with the deceased, he went home at nine o'clock on Tuesday evening; he had had a little beer, and sat down in the darkness and went to sleep. On waking up at 10.30, and lighting a candle he found the deceased lying with her head hanging over the inside of the fender, cold and dead.

Mrs. Hill, who lived in the almshouses, saw the deceased the worse for drink between four and five o'clock, staggering as she went indoors. She heard her stumble, but as such an occurrence was frequent, no notice was taken of it, and as the young man Adler came home at nine thought all was right and went to bed.

Dr. Bunny deposed that she died from suffocation caused by pressure of the windpipe on the fender . There were no marks of violence.

A verdict of "Accidental Death " was returned.
This obituary entry is awaiting verification.
