Sy Marshall (Josiah)

 

He was baptized 26 June 1803 at St Peter, Brimpton. The family also seem to use the name Wiggins. Sy married Rachel Smith on 2 July 1826 at St Mary, Kingsclere. Rachel was baptized 9 June 1805 at St Mary. In the 1841 & 1851 censuses Sy, Rachel & children were living at Brimpton Common, with Sy an agricultural labourer & farm labourer. In 1861 Sy, Rachel & two sons were living in Brinkworth, Wiltshire with two sons, Sy being a woods man. Rachel was buried 5 January 1871 at St Peter, Brimpton. In the 1871 census Sy & son John were boarding at Liphook Road, Calne with both recorded as hoop makers. He then married Ruth Webb (nee Smart) on 10 April 1871 at Calne; he was lodging with her son & family including Ruth in 1871 census. Ruth was born circa 1798 in Bremhill, Wiltshire. In 1881 Sy & Ruth were living at Brimpton Common & he was an agricultural labourer. Ruth was then buried 30 December 1881 at St Peter, Brimpton. Sy died 26 March 1883 at Newbury Workhouse and is buried in Newtown Road Cemetery.
