Francis Wright
1842-1926
Francis was born in Gaywood Norfolk, he was baptised on the 6th November 1842, the son of Francis (a Farm/Agricultural Labourer) and Eleanor (Ellen) Wright (nee Burch/Birch) who were married in Middleton Norfolk in 1835
In 1851 Francis (9) was living in Gaywood Norfolk with his parents and siblings Frederick (6) and Elizabeth (1).
The 1861 census records Francis (18) working as an Agricultural Labourer. He was living in River Lane, Gaywood, Norfolk with his parents Francis (50) and Eleanor (54) and his brother Frederick (15) who was also working as an Agricultural Labourer.
Francis married Mary Palmer on the 9th August 1863 at the Baptist Chapel Ramsey Huntingdon.
(Mary was the daughter of Brighty and Sarah Palmer (nee Edwards) who were married in 1823 in Ramsey Huntingdon)
In 1871 Francis (30) was recorded as a Police Constable living in Yaxley Huntingdon with Mary (40) and a granddaughter Mary Alice Palmer aged 7 months (daughter of Mary’s illegitimate son Alfred born 1849 who married Lucy Atkinson in 1870 in Halifax).
The 1881 census records Francis (40) and Mary (46) living in The Green, Passenham, Northamptonshire Francis was again recorded as a Police Constable.
In 1891 Francis (49) was recorded as a Superintendent of Insurance Agents, living at 31 Wellington Street, Swindon, Wiltshire with Mary (50)
The 1901 census records Francis (58) as an Insurance Agent, living at 1 Redland Villa, York Road, Newbury with Mary (70).
Mary died aged 80 on the 21st December 1909 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th December.
Francis remarried in 1910 in Newbury. His 2nd wife was Anna Smith (born c1863 in Norwich Norfolk).
The 1911 census records Francis (65) as a Prudential Agent, living at Donhead, 40 York Road, Newbury with his wife Anna (48) and Anna’s sister Ellen Smith aged (18).
Francis died aged 83 on the 23rd May 1926, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29th May with his 1st wife Mary.
