Elizabeth Butler (1875 – 1882)
George Butler was born in 1848 in Chaddleworth, the son of Henry and Elizabeth. He married Eliza Hazell on 22 November 1874 at St Andrew in Chaddleworth. Eliza was born in 1848 in Welford.
George and Eliza had a daughter Elizabeth born 1875 in Chaddleworth then another daughter Emily was born in 1878 in Newtown, Newbury.
In the 1881 census George and Eliza with their two daughters were living in Newtown and George was recorded as a labourer. Just a few months after the census another son William Henry was born in Newtown.
Sadly, Elizabeth died 23 November 1882 and she was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 27 November 1882. A notice appeared in the Newbury Weekly News dated 30 November 1882 as below.
BUTLER – Nov. 23, at Harborough Place, Newbury, Elizabeth, child of George Butler, aged 7 years.
George and Elizabeth had another two children Ethel Maud born 1887 in Burghclere and Montague Henry born 1890 in Newbury. The family continued to live locally in the 1891 census they were living in Chestnut Court off Bartholomew Street in Newbury and in 1901 in Burghclere. George and Elizabeth both died in 1908 in Kingsclere district, so probably in Burghclere.
