Esther Gough
1877-1882
Esther was born in Newbury the daughter of George and Elizabeth Gough (nee Dibley) who were married on the 27th August 1860 at St John’s Church Newbury.
Her father was baptised on the 29th June 1828 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Gough (nee Marshman) who were married on the 16th June 1814 at St Nicolas Newbury. He died aged 64 in the Newbury Workhouse on the 28th January 1893 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery (burial date unknown)
Her mother was born in 1840 in Newbury the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Dibley (nee Hill) who were married on the 3rd January 1820 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. She died aged 47 in 1886 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th September
Esther’s siblings were: Samuel 1860 (died aged 3 months buried in the NRC as William Samuel on the 22nd February 1861), Harriet Elizabeth 1862, Sarah Priscilla 1864, George 1866, Thomas c1869, Henry James 1871, William 1873, Elizabeth Charlotte 1875 and Emily 1880
The 1861, 1871 and 1881 census records the family living in the City Newbury.
Her father was recorded as an Agricultural Labourer in 1861, a Labourer in 1871, a Bricklayer in 1881 and a General Labourer in 1891.
Esther died aged 5 on the 4th September 1882 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road cemetery on the 8th September
