Anna Maria Pike
1799-1882
Anna Maria, her parents, siblings and early like:
Anna Maria was born on the 22nd September 1799, in Newbury, Berkshire. She was baptised on the 30th October 1799, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the daughter of James and Anna Maria Dredge
Anna Maria’s father James was a Victualler and Basket Maker. He was born c1763. James died (of decline) aged 40, in 1803. He was buried on the 30th March, at St Nicolas, Newbury
Anna Maria’s mother Anna Maria was born c1765. She died aged 69 in 1834 and was buried on the 12th December, at St Nicolas, Newbury.
James and Anna Maria also had the following children (baptised at St Nicolas, Newbury):
Nathaniel and David, together, 13th November 1789
William, 16th May 1792
George, 18th April 1794 (born 14th March 1794)
Richard, 5th August 1796
John, 22nd June 1798 (born 21st May 1798)
The 1815 census of Newbury records Anna Maria (15), living at the Nags Head, on the east side of Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire, with her widowed mother Anna Maria (47), and her brothers, David (21), a Basket Maker, George (20), a Smith, Richard (17), a Basket Maker and John (16), a Locksmith.
Anna Maria in later life:
Anna Maria married Charles Fidler on the 26thJanuary 1823, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury. (Both were single and of the parish, witnesses were William Dredge and Elizabeth Holmes)
(Charles was a Shoemaker. He was baptised on the 17th June 1795, at St Nicolas, Newbury, the son of Edward and Sarah Fidler)
Anna Maria was widowed in 1826, Charles Fidler died aged 31, he was buried on the 6th September, at St Nicolas, Newbury.
Anna Maria remarried on the 10th February 1834, at St Mary, Speen, Berkshire. Her 2nd husband was Charles Pike (witnesses recorded as David Dodge and Clara Boyes possibly David Dredge and Clara Boyer mistranscribed)
(Charles was a Fisherman, employed by the Craven family at Benham Park. He was born on the 2ndJanuary 1796, Leckford, Hampshire and was baptised on the 30th January 1796, in Leckford, the son of Isaac and Elizabeth Pike (nee Doe) who were married in Leckford in 1786).
Census records record Charles and Anna Maria living in Marsh Benham, Berkshire, on ancestry as follows:
1841: Charles Pike (40) and Anna (35) (mistakenly transcribed as Harriott)
1851: Charles Pyke (55) and Anne M. (51)
1861: Charles Pike (65) and Maria (60)
1871: Charles Pike (75) and Anna M. (70)
1881: Charles Pike (85) and Anna (81). Also recorded living with them in 1881 was a widow, Eliabeth Dredge (64), (surname mistakenly recorded as Dridge) a Nurse. (Elizabeth was the widow of Nathaniel Dredge (1818-1859) Anna Maria’s nephew, the son of Anna Maria’s brother Nathaniel Dredge)
Anna Maria died aged 82, on the 22nd June 1882. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th June, with her brother John Dredge, who died in 1869.
Charles died aged 91, on the 5th March 1887. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11th March, with Anna Maria and her brother John Dredge.
Probate: PIKE Anna Maria Personal Estate £1729 15s 13th November 1882 Administration of the Personal Estate of Anna Maria Pike (wife of Charles Pike) late of Hamstead Marshall in the County of Berks who died 22nd June 1882 at Hamstead Marshall was granted at the Principal Registry to the said Charles Pike of Hamstead Marshall Fisherman
