Grave of the Month March 2026
Georgiana Leone Douglas (1852–1826)

Date of burial 26 March 1926

Georgiana was born in Germany. As was her father who was an Anglican Clergyman, serving mostly in the Midlands. Georgiana’s mother came from the Newbury area. Georgiana and her brother, Robert, (also buried in this grave) lived on the corner of Porchester Road. Robert died in 1918.

Georgiana bequeathed all her money to build a new St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Newbury, opened nearly 100 years ago in 1927.

Friends of Newtown Road Cemetery recently funded the restoration of her grave.  The grave was re-dedicated on 26 March 2026 by Fr Michael Fava, Parish Priest of St Joseph’s.
