Transciption: | ROBERT HAWKINS DEATH OF AN OLD PENSIONER
By the death of Robert Hawkins, an almsman of St. Bartholomew’s, an almshouse becomes vacant, and his pension of 7s. A week which he has received for the last 58 years terminates. It is estimated he has received over £900 from a grateful country.
As he was in the army only five years it follows that he did not enter until 1818, so that he could not have been at Waterloo as reported. Deceased had lost one arm which was the reason for his early discharge.
He was formerly a letter carrier at Wantage.
