Charlotte Elizabeth Tardif was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Jean Baptiste and Hannah Tardif (nee Burgess)

Her father Jean Baptiste was born c1834. The 1871 census records his birth place as St Lucia Charles Jam Somerset, the 1881 records his birth place as the United States.

Her mother Hannah was baptised on the 31st January 1830 in Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire, the daughter of Francis and Charlotte Burgess (nee Cooper) who were married on the 14th July 1821 in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

 

Charlotte’s siblings were:

Half sibling Charles Martel Green born c1863 in Cape Colony, Fort Elizabeth (possibly Jamacia)

Eliza M Norton Tardif born c1866 in Cape Colony, Fort Elizabeth

Jean Baptiste born 1869 in Newbury

Marie Euphemia born c1871 in Newbury

Alfred Euin born c1873 in Newbury

In 1871 Charlotte (3) was living in Speenhamland, Berkshire with her parents, Jean, a Hairdresser and Hannah, her half-brother Charles Green (8), her sisters Eliza (5) and Marie (3months) and her brother Jean (1).

Charlotte Tardif died aged 12 in 1880, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th October.

The family were still living in Speenhamland when the 1881 was taken, Jean was recorded as a Barber.

Charlotte’s mother Hannah Tardiff died aged 55 in 1885, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th January.

 

Charlotte’s father Jean Baptiste Tardif died aged 52 in 1886, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd July.
