Joseph Sawyer
c1801-1880
Joseph and his brother George were baptised on the 25th October 1801 in Kintbury, the sons of William and Jane Sawyer.
He married Mary Wheatland on the 19th October 1827 in Kintbury, Berkshire.
Joseph and Mary had the following children:
George baptised 4th May 1828 in Kintbury
Jane baptised 10th July 1831 in Kintbury
Charles born 1839
Joseph was recorded working as a Carman in 1841, a Bargeman in 1851 and an Agricultural Labourer in 1861.
In 1841 the family were recorded living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury. (family surname recorded as Sanger on ancestry).
Joseph, Mary and Charles were also recorded in the 1851 and 1861 census records living in Northcroft Lane.
Mary died aged 68 in 1866 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th July.
In 1871 Joseph (70) was working as a Labourer in a Coal Yard, he was living at 19 West Mills, Newbury. His nephew John W Sawyer (aged 9, born Islington London) was recorded living with him.
Joseph died aged 79 on the 24th April 1880, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th April.
