Elizabeth was born on the 28th July 1798 in Newbury Berkshire she was baptised on the 15th August 1798 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the daughter of John and Sarah Wright (nee Brunsdon) who were married on the 13th November 1780 at St Nicolas.

John and Sarah also had the following fourteen children:

John Brunston baptised  8thJuly1781 (buried (as John) 9th October 1815 at St Nicolas)

William baptised 2nd March 1783 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (buried 1st March 1788 at St Nicolas)

James born c1784

Richard baptised 25th February 1787 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (died aged 63, buried 2nd August 1850 in the NRC)

William and Sarah both baptised 22nd June 1788 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (Sarah buried 11/8/1788, William buried 31/8/1789 at St Nicolas)

Charles baptised 1st November 1789 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (died aged 42, buried 15th May 1832 at St Nicolas)

Hannah baptised 21st August 1791 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (married Sidney Cumner in 1814, buried 12th September 1836 at St Nicolas)

Thomas baptised 14th July 1793 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (died aged 37, buried 16th March 1829 at St Nicolas)

Betsy baptised 20th September 1795 at St Nicolas Church Newbury

Joseph born 6th March 1797 baptised 2nd April 1797 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (married Maria Walker in 1829, died aged 61, buried 30th December 1857 in the NRC)

Samuel baptised 5th January 1800 (died aged 8, buried 23rd September 1807 at St Nicolas)

Sarah born 28th August 1802 baptised 26th September 1802 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (married widower George Field in 1850, died aged 48 in 1851 buried in the NRC on the 27th June)

Mary born c1805 baptised 23rd August 1805 (died aged 7 months, buried 10th March 1806 at St Nicolas Church Newbury)

 

In 1815 Elizabeth (19) (no occupation recorded) was recorded living at the Waggon and Horses, Market Place, Newbury.  Her parents John Wright (60), a Malter and Sarah (54) and their children, John (33), James (31), Richard (27) and Sarah (13) were living in Northcroft Lane on the west side of Northbrook Street Newbury.

Elizabeth married James Hatt on the 15th September 1833 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. Both were single and made their mark, witnesses were Richard Wright and Sarah Brunsdon. (James was born c1805 in Aldbourne Wiltshire)

James and Elizabeth had two daughters.

Eliza Ann born in Newbury c1835, baptised on the 3rd May 1835 at St Nicolas Church Newbury her father was recorded as a Horse Keeper

Sarah was born in Newbury in1837, baptised on the 24th September 1837 at St Nicolas Church Newbury her father was as an Ostler. Sarah died later that year.

The 1841 census records James (35) as a Horstler, (Ostler) Elizabeth (40) and Eliza (6) living on the east side of Northbrook Street Newbury.

In both the 1851 and 1861 census records the family were recorded living in Jack of Newbury Street Newbury.

 In 1851 James (48) was recorded as a Stableman, his daughter Eliza (15) was recorded as a Dressmaker. Also in the household was a visitor, Sarah Field (Elizabeth’s married sister).

In 1861 James (56) was recorded as disabled, formerly an Ostler. His daughter Eliza (26) was again recorded as a Dressmaker. She married Richard Allen Prestoe in Newbury later that year.

By 1871 James (67), an Annuitant and Elizabeth (75) were living in Northcroft Lane Newbury

They both died in 1879 Elizabeth died aged 84 on the 28th November she was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd December. James died aged 73 on the 8th December he was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th December.
