David King

David was born in Newbury, Berkshire, he was baptised on the 16th October 1836 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of George and Mary King (formerly Bennett, nee Purdue) who were married on the 3rd April 1830 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.
David’s father George was born on the 9th February 1807, he was baptised on the 1st March 1807 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of David (a Maltster) and Hannah King (nee Durling) who were married on the 17th June 1802 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. George died aged 67 in 1872, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th December.
David’s mother Mary was born c1798 in Newbury, the daughter of Joseph and Hannah Purdue (nee Parsons) who were married on the 20th October 1793 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury. (Possible 1st husband, William Bennett married on the 13th October 1823 in Amport, Southampton, Hampshire). Mary died aged 68 in 1865, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th June
George and Mary also had a son Samuel, baptised on the 16th October 1831 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.
In 1841 David (4) was living in The City, Newbury with his father George (30), a Maltster’s Labourer and his mother Mary (35). His brother Samuel (9) was living with his grandparents Joseph and Hannah Purdue, at 6 Bartholomew Almshouses, Newbury, Berkshire.
The 1851 census records David (14) as a Shoemaker, he was still living with his father George (44), now working as an Agricultural Labouer and his mother Mary (52), they were now living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury.
David married Sarah Whiting in 1864 (marriage registered in Newbury)
They had the following children:

The 1871 census records David (34) as a Labourer, living in The City, Newbury, with Sarah (29) and their two sons George (5) and Frederick (3).
David died aged 44 on the 18th October 1879, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st October.
The 1881 census records Sarah (39) as a Glove Maker, living in The City, Newbury with her three children George (15), a Blacksmith, Frederick (13) and Alice (9).
Sarah remarried in 1882, her 2nd husband was William Collins Digby (a widower, 1st wife Jemima Chubb, married in 1869)
The 1891 census records William (49) as a Town Scavenger and Sarah (48) living in Hampton Road, Newbury. They have been recorded with the surname Collins.
Sarah died (as Sarah Collins) aged 52 in 1894, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th November
William Digby (58) was recorded as a Pauper in the Newbury Workhouse in 1901, he died aged 60 in 1903 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 23rd February.
