James Vockins
c1812 -1879
James was born in Mildenhall, Wiltshire, he was baptised on the 26th December 1813 in Aldbourne, Wiltshire, the son of John (a Weaver) and Sarah Vockings (nee Lee) who were married on the 26th October 1801 in Aldbourne (surname recorded as Vokins at time of marriage).
John and Sarah also had the following children baptised in Aldbourne (all surnames recorded as Vockins at time of baptisms):
Thomas 19th August 1804
Sarah 26th July 1807
John 2nd June 1810
James Vokins married Sophia Roby on the 3rd March 1834 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire.
(Sophia was born in Chieveley, Berkshire, she was baptised in 1807 in Chieveley, the daughter of Aaron and Mary Roby (nee Low/Law) who were married in 1800 in Chieveley/Leckhampstead, Berkshire).
The 1841 census records James (30) as a Male Servant, living in Northbrook Street, Newbury, Berkshire, with Sophia (30) (surname recorded as Nakins on ancestry)
By 1851 the couple were living in Marsh Benham, Berkshire, The1861 and 1871 census also record them living in Marsh Benham.
James was recorded as a Gardener in 1851 and a Market Gardener in 1861 and 1871.
Sophia died aged 71 on the 12th October 1878, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th October.
James died aged 68 on the 3rd January 1879, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th January.
