Thomas James Vobe

1899-1925

Thomas was born on the 27th October 1899 in Bermondsey, London, he was baptised on the 15th November 1899 at St John the Evangelist, Walworth, Southwark, the son of Thomas James (a Cardboard Box Maker) and Mary Elizabeth Vobe (nee Morgan) who were married on the 2nd April 1899 at St Paul Southwark.

Thomas and Mary also had the following two children:

Edward Charles born 1906 (died in 1912)

Jessie Louisa Mary born 6th December 1908

Thomas’s father Thomas was born on the 8th December 1875, he was baptised (along with his brothers Charles William and Alexander George) on the 6th October 1886 at St Mary, Princes Road, Lambeth, Surrey, the sons of Joseph James (a Tailor) and Jessie Vobe (nee White) who were married at St Mary, Lambeth, Surrey on the 15th January 1871

His mother Mary was born on the 14th November 1878 in Bloomsbury, London, the daughter of Thomas Joseph and Frances Sophia Morgan (nee Hyson) who were married on the 10th January 1878 at St Mary Lambeth.

 

In 1901 Thomas (1) was living with his parents at 29 Darwin Street, Southwark.

The 1911 census records the family living at 57 Sandown Road, South Norwood, Croydon. 

The family were still living in Croydon in 1921 but by 1924 they were living in Clifton Road, Newbury, Berkshire.

Thomas died aged 25 in 1925, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th June.

His father Thomas died aged 77 in 1952 (death registered in Newbury)

His mother Mary died aged 84 in 1963 (death registered in Reading)
