Henry Charles Day
1875-1878
Henry Charles Day was the third child of Thomas and Ellen Day (nee Benham) who were married in 1870 (marriage registered in Reading).
Henry died aged 3 on the 20th September 1878 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th September 1878.
His father Thomas was born c1843 in Shinfield Berkshire the son of James and Ann Day (nee Monger). He worked as was a Groom, Stableman and Gardener’s Labourer.
His mother Eleanor (aka Ellen) was born c1840 in Swallowfield Berkshire the daughter of John and Ann Benham (nee Cordery).
Henry’s siblings were:
Alice Louisa born 1871 in Wokingham
Ellen Rose born 1873 in Newbury
Elizabeth Annie born 1876 in Newbury (died aged 8 months, buried 9th March 1877 in the NRC)
Emily Frances born 1878 in Newbury
Kate Priscilla born 1881 in Newbury
Alfred Brice born 1884 in Newbury
In 1881 the family were living at the Rose and Thistle Yard Newbury. By 1891 they had moved to St Giles Reading.
The 1901 census records Thomas, Ellen and their son Alfred living at 9 Park Cottages Shinfield Road Reading.
Eleanor died aged 70 in 1910 in Reading.
Thomas was still living at 9 Park Cottages in 1911. He died aged 80 in 1923 in Reading.
