Laura Bulpit
1877-1878
Laura was born in 1877 in Newbury, the daughter of Edmund and Maria Bulpit (nee Wernham) who were married in 1873 (marriage registered in Newbury, Maria’s surname spelt Wornham).
Laura’s mother Maria was born in Newbury in 1855, the daughter of Elijah and Eliza Wernham (nee Brown) who were married in Newbury in 1853.
Her father Edmund was born in 1853 in Newbury the son of Joseph (a widower, 1st wife Elizabeth Chater/Cheater) and Mary Ann Bulpit (a widow, formerly Langfield nee Hamblin) who were married in 1852 in Newbury.
Edmund and Maria also had two other children, Eliza Harriet born 1873 and Elijah born 1874 (died soon after birth, burial place unknown).
Her sister Eliza died aged 4 in 1877 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11th September (as Eliza)
Laura’s mother Maria died aged 23 a few weeks later, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd November 1877.
Laura died aged 14 months the following year, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st May 1878.
Her father Edmund remarried in 1881 in Newbury. His 2nd wife was Elizabeth Collins (his half-niece, born 13th February 1861 in Enborne, daughter of Emmanuel and Elizabeth Collins (nee Bulpit). Elizabeth Bulpit and Edmund were both the children of Joseph Bulpit born c1805 in Enborne ).
Edmund and Elizabeth went on to have had four children, Arthur Edward born in 1883 (died in 1883 aged 1 month, buried in the NRC on the 18th May), May Matilda born in 1885, Francis Edmund born in 1886 (died 1886, buried in the NRC on the 15th September) and Florence Daisy born in 1895.
Edmund died aged 73 in 1926 (death registered in Poplar)
The 1939 register records Elizabeth (78) and Florence Daisy (44) living at 53 Andover Road Newbury.
Elizabeth died aged 81 in 1942 (death registered in Newbury)
