Charles Marshall

CHARLES MARSHALL

He was baptised on 18 February 1827 in Thatcham.  His parents were William and Lydia (Rixon) Marshall.

In the 1841 census he was living with his widowed mother in Broad Street, Thatcham, together with his younger siblings:  George (b. 1828); Susanna (b. 1831); Mary Ann (b. 1832); William (b. 1836) and Frederick (b. 1839).  Charles was 14 years old and a painter apprentice.

He married Ann Mayow on 25 July 1847 in Thatcham. His occupation was a journeyman plumber.

For more biographical background, refer to the record of his wife Ann Marshall (1826-1890).

After working for many years as a plumber and glazier, and possibly holding the licence of The Cock Public House in Shaw Road, Speen, he became the landlord of the Anchor Inn, Northbrook Street, in April 1875.

He died at the age of 51 years on 13 March 1878 at the Anchor Inn and he was buried on 18 March.
