Thomas Showell
c1811-1875
Thomas was born in Newbury the son of Thomas and Frances Showell (nee Bayle) who were married on the 6th April 1789 in Bradford on Avon Wiltshire. Thomas died aged 42 in 1811 he was buried on the 12th October at St Nicolas Newbury,
The 1815 census of Newbury records Frances (42) as a widow, living on the west wide of Cheap Street Newbury (Factory) with her children, Hannah (26), Mary (19), Ann (12), William (10), Thomas (3) and her grandchildren, Maria (6), James (2) and Benjamin (infant).
Thomas married a widow, Elizabeth Moore (nee Withers, born c1810 in Botley Hampshire) on the 11th May 1845 at St John the Evangelist Lambeth Surrey. At the time of the marriage Thomas was recorded as a Porter living at Carlisle Square.
In 1851 the couple were living at 3 Willow Row, Old Street, St Luke’s Middlesex, Thomas was still working as a Porter. By 1861 they had moved to Newbury (Cheap Street) and Thomas was working as a Carman.
Elizabeth died aged 54 in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th May.
Thomas remarried in Newbury in 1863 his 2nd wife was a widow, Ann Stanford (nee Cox, born c1820 in Shefford Berkshire, widow of Samuel Stanford). The 1871 census records Thomas and Ann living in Greenham Street Newbury, Thomas was recorded as a Carman.
Thomas died aged 65 on the 19th October 1875 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st October.
