THE LATE MR. RICHARD SHAW
We record, with much regret, the death of Mr. Richard Shaw, seed grower, of West Mills. Mr. Shaw was descended from a family which has been connected with Newbury for a couple of centuries. He was held in much esteem by his fellow townsmen, and though he did not take a very prominent part in local affairs he was nevertheless a Guardian of the Poor for many years, and was on one occasion Foreman of the Court Leet.
Mr. Shaw after seeing his family through an attack of typhoid fever, himself fell ill, and died on Sunday, reference to the sad event being made on the same evening from the pulpit of the Baptist Chapel, of which church he had been for many years a member.
The deceased was 53 years of age, and leaves a widow and large family, for whom deep sympathy is universally felt. The funeral takes place today.
