William was baptised 5th March 1813 in Wantage and was the son of John Totty & Mary Mayo (nee Dear) who were married in Twyford on 27th June 1803.
William’s siblings were:

Jane born 12/6/1804, baptised at St Nicolas church Newbury 15/8/1804
Mary Anne born 11/1/1806, baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury 3/8/1806
Robert born 1/10/1807, baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury 23/12/1807
John Mayo born 22/8/1809, baptised 13/9/1809 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (died before 1816)
John baptised at Thatcham 31/3/1816 
William’s mother died in 1821 and his father remarried in 1822, his stepmother gave birth to a son Thomas Totty Mayo in 1823.
William married Mary Butson in 1838

Francis Butson born 1856, died 1864 aged 7, buried 19/2/1864 in Newtown Road Cemetery 
 
In 1841 William, Mary and their children were living in Northbrook Street Newbury, Mary’s mother Sarah, was also living with them.
In 1851 William, Mary and their children were living in the parish of St Nicolas and William was working as an Auctioneers Porter.
 
In 1861 the family were living in Caroline Place Newbury and William was working as a Labourer. Mary’s widowed mother was again living with the family at this time.
In 1871 William & Mary were recorded living in the parish of St Nicolas and William was again recorded working as an Auctioneers Porter.
William died in 1875 and was buried on 17th April at Newtown Road Cemetery.
Mary died in 1877 and was buried on 3rd October at Newtown Road Cemetery
