David was baptised on the 1st May 1831, in Oare/Chieveley, Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Hannah Ballard (nee Tidbury) who were married on the 25th December 1816, at St Andrew, Bradfield, Berkshire.
David’s father Thomas was baptised on the 2nd August 1795, Leckhampstead/Chieveley, Berkshire, the son of William and Charlotte Ballard (nee Brooker) who were married on the 7th November 1782, in Leckhampstead/Chieveley. Thomas died aged 81, in 1877. He was buried on the 13th May, at St Bartholomew, Oare,
David’s mother Hannah was born on the 15th August 1792, in Thatcham, Berkshire. She was baptised on the 26th August, 1792, in Thatcham, the daughter of Jacob and Hannah Tidbury (nee Jayes) who were married on the 25th November 1791, in Thatcham. Hannah died aged 69, she was buried on the 21st June 1863, at St Bartholomew, Oare.
Thomas and Hannah also had the following children:

James, baptised 29th August 1819, in Oare/Chieveley
Sarah, baptised 24th June 1821, in Oare/Chieveley
Henry, baptized 22nd December 1823, in Chieveley
Charlotte, baptised 7th May 1826, in Oare/Chieveley
George, baptised 18th August 1828, in Oare/Chieveley
Charles, baptised 11th August 1833, in Oare (died aged 7, buried 30th Nov. 1840, at St Mary the Virgin, Chieveley)
Joseph, born c1837 (no baptism found)
William, born c1838 (no baptism found)
Harriet, baptised 1st January 1843, in Oare
The 1841 census records David (10), living in Curridge, Chieveley, Berkshire, with his father Thomas (45), his mother Hannah (45), his brothers, James (20), Henry (15), both Agricultural Labourers, George (10), Joseph (3), William (3) and his sister Charlotte (15).
In 1851 David (19) was working as a Labourer, he was still living at home with his parents, Thomas (59) a Labourer and Hannah (57), in Curridge.
No census records found for David in 1861 or 1871. Records show he joined the Army, serving in the 66th Foot Regiment and that he was in receipt of a pension from the 28th October 1873.
David died in the Newbury Workhouse, on the 24th March 1875, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th March. (age at death recorded as 40)
