Transciption: | Mr. WALKER who died at his residence in West-street last Saturday morning, after a comparatively brief illness, was formerly the Governor of Wantage Union, and has now for nearly 20 years past been the confidential clerk at the West Mills Brewery. He was much respected by his employers for his conscientious discharge of his duties, and as a tribute to his memory he was followed to the grave by Mr. T.E. Hawkins and Mr. E. Hawkins, and was carried by the workmen at the Brewery.

Henry Walker 1808 - 1874 Henry was born in Windsor. At the time of the 1841 census, Henry was the Governor of the Wantage Union Workhouse. His wife Susan was Matron. They had 4 children. Their son Henry passed away aged 4 months in 1840. Susan died in 1841 aged 37 years. Her death was recorded as Puerperal Fever, an infection caught during childbirth. She and their son Henry are both buried in St. Peter and St. Paul Churchyard, Wantage. Henry married Sarah Griffin in Greet, Shropshire in 1845. In the 1861 census, Henry was listed as living at Carnarvon Terrace, West Street, Newbury with wife, Sarah. He worked at West Mills Brewery as Brewer's Clerk. Sarah died in 1871. Henry Walker worked at the brewery for 17 years. He died at West Street, Newbury, aged 66 on 16th May 1874. His cause of death was recorded as diseased heart and West Mills Brewery Chimney (Centre, Back) congestion of the lungs. He was much respected by his employers, Mr Thomas Edward Hawkins and Mr E Hawkins and they followed the coffin, carried by the workmen of the West Mills Brewery, to the grave. He was buried in Newtown Road Cemetery, Newbury on 20th May 1874 alongside his wife Sarah.
